Dear California Psychiatrist Colleague,
APA elections are now open. Our own Dr. Bart Blinder is campaigning for APA President-Elect. Dr. Dick Shadoan and I encourage you to support Bart who has been unrelenting in his efforts for over three decades on our behalf for our practice, for patients’ access to care and safety, for our CPA Annual Meeting programs, and most recently as Area 6 Representative to APA. He is a Clinical Professor on the voluntary faculty at UC Irvine where he teaches, supervises, and in the past was Director of Eating Disorder Research and Treatment. He is in the private practice of Adult and Child Psychiatry and is a graduate adult and child psychoanalyst.
He helped then California State Assemblywoman Helen Thomson include coverage for eating disorders in her Mental Health parity bill which became law in California and a model for the country.
He has led our APA Assembly delegation advocating for access to care and removing impediments to our practice. Other important issues that he has addressed include advocating for a more valid, rational MOC process and the integration of pharmacotherapy and psychotherapy in our everyday practice. Finally, he has emphasized an important and expanded role of the psychiatrist in integrated care in extended medical settings.
We believe he deserves our enthusiastic and full support.
Sincerely,
Captane P. Thomson, MD
